During the overnight weekend iGeo participants will attend workshops, group activities and tour the College of Geosciences. Participants will in addition, interact with a variety of university personnel, students, and community leaders in the area of Geosciences. Furthermore, students will have the opportunity to experience living in a residence hall by rooming with a current Geosciences student. Select Geosciences faculty members will lead workshops in (1) their area of expertise within Geosciences; (2) lab presentation and technology skills; (3) research; and (4) career opportunities in Geosciences. iGeo Weekend Program will end with a tailgate celebration sponsored by the Association of Former Students along with the attendance of a home football game. Current Texas A&M University Geosciences students will serve as peer leaders during the two-day program. This program is available at no cost to students thanks to sponsorship from the Texas A&M Minority Recruitment and Retention Leadership Team (MRRLT) based in the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Programs at Texas A&M and the College of Geosciences. Approximately twelve students will be selected to participate in iGeo the fall of each year and will receive full sponsorship which covers room, meals, and supplies. Mileage reimbursement to and from College Station may be available on an as-needed basis. Students who attend iGeo and then enroll at Texas A&M are eligible for a Texas A&M Foundation Excellence Award (FEA) Scholarship. iGeo is an overnight weekend program at Texas A&M University that introduces motivated, underrepresented junior and senior students (i.e. African American, and Hispanic/Latino) to the Geosciences while giving students quality educational opportunities and exposure to college life. iGeo participants will also have the chance to meet other high school students from throughout the state as well as current Geosciences students and faculty.
